What is the Good Grid

What is The Good Grid?

In a nutshell, the Good Grid is a community platform for requesting and delivering social services. Here, providers, volunteers, employers and beneficiaries work together to break the cycles of poverty, crime and recidivism.

So how did this idea come about?

Many people find themselves in helpless situations and having to deal with a multitude of poverty related troubles. Though there are many good people and organizations ready to help, people are still slipping through the cracks. We address this gap by:

  • connecting beneficiaries - those looking for help - to providers that can address their issues
  • helping service providers serve more effectively by connecting them to dedicated supporters & useful tools
  • channeling volunteers to causes that are meaningful to them.

Founding Principles

The Good Grid was built on the following founding principles:

  • Many in need are unable to achieve their full potential due to a variety of societal and infrastructural problems – We believe that in order to improve the lives of people, a holistic approach needs to be taken. We know the importance of addressing all aspects of reentry by covering all the bases through an integrated support system.
  • Most people in need require the services of many different organizations – However there are currently wide disparities in operational processes, capabilities, and goals between these organizations, which have often resulted in isolated, fragmented, or duplicative services offered to those most in need. Our goal is to provide a platform for these service providers to work together in a cohesive, organized, and efficient manner.
  • Anyone and everyone can make an impact – Every person has a part to play in improving the lives of those in need, which is why it is imperative for service providers, charitable foundations, and individual volunteers to all work together in order to create the largest possible impact in improving society. The Good Grid looks to ultimately leverage this interconnectedness in order to realize the collective impact that we have on those in need and on enabling them to reach their potential as successful and productive members of the community.

A Quick Background - How did the Good Grid start?

The Good Grid is a part of Protech Solutions, Inc., a software company headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. Protech is recognized as one of the nation’s leading providers of information technology services to state and local governments with a primary business focus of Child Support Enforcement (CSE) technology. In early 2013, Protech began taking a broader perspective on increasing child support collections.

One of the major groups who perform poorly on paying their child support are ex-offenders. In understanding the many issues and barriers that ex-offenders face, the need for a comprehensive support portal arose, and thus, the Good Grid began being built. In early 2014, Protech and the Arkansas Community Correction (ACC) created a partnership to plan and implement this comprehensive social services portal designed to systematically address and reduce recidivism among felony offenders in the State of Arkansas.
